Prompts to help you write and create

Overview of prompts to help you write and create

This section explains how to use generative AI effectively when creating a written piece of work, from the initial stages of overcoming writer’s block and finding ideas, through to editing and refining your final assignment. This chapter also explains how to create images using generative AI tools.

Generative AI can be helpful when you are starting your assignment, if you need to gain a greater understanding of a topic or ideas that you can focus on and explore further Generative AI tools also have many other capabilities in supporting writing, including providing an outline for a topic or suggesting a structure for your assignments. When permitted by your course educator, AI-generated images can be used in your assignments to add visual interest and to illustrate your ideas.

As AI tools become more integrated in study and learning, it is important to understand how to use these tools ethically and appropriately when writing and researching. These tools can support your writing but should not be used as a replacement for your own thinking and generation of content.

  • Verify any information and references retrieved through generative AI tools with credible sources found via search tools such as LibarySearch.
  • If using any content from AI tools in your assignment, be sure to attribute or reference the AI-generated content correctly. The RMIT Library’s Artificial Intelligence – Referencing guidelines provides information on referencing AI tools.
