Further resources to guide your use of artificial intelligence

RMIT University resources

  • Generative artificial intelligence in learning & teaching

The Educator Resource Hub provides resources on: 1) building educator capabilities in AI; 2) AI tools and technologies; and 3) AI communities of practice. These resources will help you effectively integrate AI into your teaching practice, stay informed about the latest developments, and ensure alignment with RMIT’s policies and standards.

  • Learning Lab

The Learning Lab provides information on what generative artificial intelligence is, how it works, and how AI tools can help with assignments.

  • Research Practice with AI at RMIT (RePAIR)

RePAIR is a collaborative community of research staff, students, and professional personnel who share an interest in integrating AI tools and techniques into their research. The group emphasises the use of AI in research design and execution, with a strong focus on critical and ethical considerations surrounding its adoption in research practices.

  • Val – RMIT’s Generative AI tool

Val is RMIT’s generative artificial intelligence tool and is powered by OpenAI. Val is private, secure, and free for all current RMIT staff and students to use. It ensures that the data you provide remains private, confidential, and secure. Unlike some other tools, Val does not share your data with OpenAI or any external organisations. This safeguards your information and intellectual property, reducing the risks of misuse or misconduct. Note: Val does not currently have access to real-time internet data.

RMIT University Library resources

  • Artificial intelligence and teaching guide

This guide provides a comprehensive overview of artificial intelligence (AI) resources designed to support teaching staff. It includes information about commonly used generative AI tools and platforms, as well as guidance on their appropriate and effective use in educational contexts. The guide also explores key considerations related to AI and students, including learning support, skill development, and ethical use. In addition, it addresses the role of AI in assessment design and academic integrity, and outlines ways AI can be applied to course and curriculum development to enhance teaching and learning practices.

  • Artificial intelligence for researchers guide

This guide provides an overview of artificial intelligence (AI) for academic staff and researchers, with a focus on its responsible and effective use in research contexts. It addresses key issues related to research integrity, including ethical considerations, transparency, and addressing AI integrity risks. The guide also outlines how AI can support literature discovery and review processes, such as searching, summarising, and organising scholarly sources. In addition, it explores the use of AI in research writing, highlighting how to craft effective prompts, and offers guidance on maintaining academic standards and authorial responsibility throughout the research lifecycle.

  • Generative AI for students at RMIT

The Library has developed a self-paced module for RMIT staff and students which includes practical examples of how students can use generative AI tools in their learning. This module is designed for students across different disciplines and focuses on generative AI tools that are available to all RMIT students. It includes information on RMIT policies, guidelines, and resources relating to generative AI and academic integrity.

TEQSA

The Tertiary Education Quality and Standards Agency (TEQSA) have developed a Gen AI knowledge hub that provides advice and resources to assist educators with the responsible use of AI.
