Responsible Practice

Responsible Practice is founded on cultural safety, inclusion, ethical responsibility, reciprocity, and reconciliation across all activities. RMIT University Library requires these principles to guide all stages of open textbook development.

This chapter discusses how to embed Responsible Practice through:

  • Consultation with Community – engaging respectfully with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Island peoples with the intention of developing ongoing relationships of respect and trust;
  • Responsible content creation – accurately and ethically representing Aboriginal and Torres Strait Island peoples, Knowledges and cultures, using inclusive, strengths-based language; and
  • Ethical resource use – drawing on approved guidelines for using and referencing Indigenous Knowledges and cultures.
