Introduction

The idea of developing an e-book for the Spanish language arose a couple of years ago when Susana and I (Glenda) did not use a textbook in our class, and used and created inclusive and diverse material and the variety of the Spanish language. However, we still saw a need for a practice workbook so students could supplement and reinforce classroom content for their own learning. This open e-book allows students to continue using diverse and inclusive material that reflected the variety of the Spanish language, including visible cultures from many parts of the Spanish-speaking world that is omitted from many books. All this can be constantly updated with the collaboration of the community according to the needs of the students.

The book is divided into five modules with six to seven lessons each, and has a range of features that integrate current technology for online pedagogy. All lessons begin with a box indicating the context and objective of the lesson. Each module ends with a video created by previous students from our Spanish courses and a cultural podcast.

The topics to be covered in this textbook are:

• la gente y los lugares
